Nature is a pretty resilient lady. This doesn't mean that scientists predict that the coral will survive without algae, but their chances are higher than once thought. Now we just have to tell Mother Nature to not go through her hot-flashes. Or are we to blame? Go discuss that on another thread.

That's a real shame for tourism and for us since the Great Barrier Reef is such an amazing natural wonder. However, the Great Barrier Reef of Australia is known to be about 1000 years old and known to have gone through many death-rebirth events. I personally think that the coral bleaching occurring in Australia and around the world is a shame, and that it is most likely caused (or worsened) by our ever-increasing greenhouse gas emissions, but we are merely witnessing a natural cycle of life.
